Food for Trail Running and Other Outdoor Pursuits

Lately I’ve been experimenting with new foods while trail running and hiking and climbing. I’m kind of tired of the usual energy bars and gels. Honestly, when my heart feels like it’s going to beat right out of my chest the last thing I want to eat is a sugary gelatinous goo.

To make the list the foods need to be: transportable (light/low water content & crushable), keep for more than 2 days, and ideally have a high calorie content. The foods should be appetizing and appealing to me even when I don’t feel hungry.

This is the current list that I’ve come up with. I’ll try to update this list as I think of more suitable foods.

  • Dates w/ peanut butter
  • Bacon (pre-cooked)
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Whisps (dehydrated cheese)
  • Pâté
  • Fat Bombs
